Also known as the Sculptor Galaxy, located about 11.5 million light-years away is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Sculptor. The galaxy has a distinctive shape, with its elongated central region and sweeping spiral arms. NGC 253 has a high rate of star formation, which is evident from the numerous bright stellar nurseries dotting its arms. The Sculptor Galaxy having an active galactic nucleus, fuelling a supermassive black hole at its centre.
