IC 2944 The Running Chicken Nebula
IC 2944
Commonly referred to as the Running Chicken Nebula, located in the constellation Centaurus. Situated approximately 6,200 light-years away from Earth. Its unique nickname stems apparently from its resemblance to a running chicken. I’m not convinced this is the best nickname for this nebula! The nebula is illuminated by the hot, massive stars born within.
I photographed this in August 2020 using my F2.2 Hyperstar and a cooled CMOS colour camera with a duo band filter.
